Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
She said that her ministry was working with the Housing and Local Government
Ministry and local authorities to come up with the guidelines.
<p>"The proposed guidelines will encompass the rules and regulations set
by the local authorities on the premises that are used for the purpose of conducting
work from the home," she said at the Dewan Negara sitting here Tuesday.</p>
<p>She was replying to a question from Senator Nik Azizah Nik Yahya on the measures
taken by the ministry to develop the concept of working from home.</p>
<p>Shahrizat said the ministry was also drafting a book of guidelines to make
it easier for people wanting to venture into the sector to get the necessary
basic information.</p>
<p>Shahrizat said the book would also provide an explanation on the concept and
benefits of working from the home and this would include information on establishing
and developing the business.</p>
<p>The draft on the guideline book would be also presented to the government for
approval, she said.</p>
<p>Once the guidelines on working from the home is approved, data on the number
of people operating business from their homes would be collected through the
applications made to the local authorities, she said.</p>
<p>"With this information, further appropriate measures such as the provision
of financial incentives and training can be looked into for those working from
their homes," she said.– BERNAMA
