Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
GEORGE TOWN, Dec 22 (Bernama) — A Bangladeshi worker was killed after a concrete wall fell on him at a construction site in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah here, Monday night.
The victim, only known as Shamsul, 30, died on the spot in the mishap which occurred at 9.20 pm.
Lebuh Pantai Fire and Rescue Station assistant superintendent Md Suhaimi Md Abdullah said the man’s body was pinned under the concrete wall and could only be extricated by the rescue team at 10.10 pm.
“The victim was working in the area when the wall collapsed. The rescue team took some time to extricate his body due to the weight of concrete wall.
