MTUC continues its efforts to ensure the development of education and knowledge sharing to all members of the affiliation is implemented through collaboration with Solidarity Center. Today, we successfully organized the Challenges and Strategy for Youths Forum & Post-COVID and Youth & Women Leadership & Organizing Training. Among the panellists present in the forum is Mr. M. Vijay from SEGI College with his officers, Mr. Sathiyan and Mr. Koh TK. While the second panellist is Brother Hashim-Acting Chairman of MTUC Youth. A total of 15 male participants and 3 female representatives from various trade unions were also present as participants in the program. Brother Zul Thye as the moderator in the forum was also assisted by Brother Rudy as the presenter for the second session and also Brother Fitri Amzah.
The program continued with a presentation from Mr. Vijay, Student Assistance Division. He started the presentation by explaining the functions and roles of SEGI College that can help the workers, especially the youth. The collaboration that has been agreed with MTUC and was signed on 15 July 2020 has given many benefits to employees in the Cross Over program activities with MTUC. In ensuring that the employees who have been laid off are assisted properly, Mr. Vijay has explained that, SEGI College can assist employees in preparing a job resume, effective interview methods and various other specific educational offers for free.
Brother Hashim, the acting MTUC Youth, reminded all union leaders present how important it is for all union members, especially the youth, to understand and be aware of their rights as workers. Sharing knowledge is very important for all union leaders in ensuring that all union members are active in the governance of their union. He also recounted his experience over the years as a union leader that can be used as a lesson to all present.
The question and answer session went well where all participants cooperated and were very active in ensuring that they gained knowledge from the forum. Among the interesting proposals submitted during this forum session is to suggest the cooperation of MTUC and SEGI College to hold a learning program regarding formal Labor Laws and be officially given to union leaders who are interested in following this program.
In the second session, Brother Fitri explained the youth activities that had been planned. The PERKASA MTUC Youth Project was presented to all present. The goal of the campaign is to empower and unite towards MTUC youths who are more focused on goals, intentions and objectives. According to Brother Fitri, MTUC Youth needs to move forward with progressive and effective activities and cooperation. The goal of the campaign is to increase the number of youths who will move along with other MTUC youths.
Brother Rudy, on the other hand, has completed this program by providing training on leadership as well as organizing methods that follow the training techniques of organizing using the ITUC model. Group work was given and all participants had to give a presentation on the campaign strategy for their respective groups.
The program ended with a group photo session by waving the Malaysian flag in conjunction with the 63rd Independence Day celebrations.
