Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health welcomes creative and innovative ideas that can improve the quality of its services to the people as well as save costs, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam (pix).
For a start, he said, he would meet young officers of the ministry who might have fresh ideas.
He gave the example of the implementation of the National Blue Ocean Strategy by the Health Ministry’s Training Division in collaboration with agencies such as the police, army, the fire brigade and the National Youth Skills Institute in refurbishing and painting the building.
“This collaboration has directly saved costs for our ministry by up to 50 per cent and ideas such as these should be expanded to make room for us to reduce costs and improve performance and productivity in the future,” he said.
Subramaniam spoke to reporters after attending the monthly assembly of the Health Ministry and the signing of a Corruption-Free Pledge (CFP) at the ministry here today.
The CFP was signed by the Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min and director-general of health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
