Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Abdullah said that by doing so, they also exposed themselves to unfair treatment by their employers.
<P>"And it is not good (for everyone)… This is a problem in Malaysia," he said in a press conference when asked by a foreign journalists on the migrant workers issue.</P>
<P>Abdullah said in such a situation it affected everyone.</P>
<P>He said if foreign workers were to be recruited, it must be done through the proper channel.</P>
<P>"The recipient and countries of origin must have a good understanding," he said.</P>
<P>On another issue, the Prime Minister said that the Asean integration process was certainly taking place.</P>
<P>"So we decided to go deeper in dealing with that," he said.</P>
<P>The Prime Minister was also asked about the deportation of the former Cambodian police chief recently for alleged involvement in criminal cases including murder.</P>
<P>Abdullah said that the Cambodian government did not put any pressure on Malaysia to send him back.</P>
<P>"It was decided finally (that) he should be sent (home)… no pressure from Cambodia but only request," said Abdullah who is also Malaysia’s Internal Security Minister.</P>
