ILO/MTUC Labour Law Reform Seminar
MTUC with the collaboration of ILO Malaysia is organising a 3 days seminar to go through the draft of the Technical Committee deliberation on the Employment Act 1955, Trade Union Act 1959, Employment Appellate Court and review of Code of Conduct for Industrial Harmony to incorporate present challenges in employment.
The opening ceremony for this seminar was officiated by Dato Halim Mansor, President of MTUC. Facilitated by Bro K Soma, Assistant Secretary, Sis A Karuna, General Council Member, Mr Raghwan,ILO Facilitator, Mr Alain Pelce, ILO ILS Specialist and Ms Dominique, ILO KL.
25 participants from various Unions such as Genting Malaysia, KESUKA, EIWU, Northport, AIROD, CEUPM, NUPCIW, AMCO, KPPP Bekalan Air PP, FIEU, UPCW, AMESU, MNU, MTUC Sarawak Division, Johor Textile, NUTP, EIEU Northern and MTUC Sabah Division attended this seminar.
Dato Halim Mansor during his opening speech, congratulated all the participants whom attended this seminar and thanked ILO for the continuos support on the LLR in Malaysia and collaborate with MTUC. It is very important that all the workers in Malaysia and the Trades Union fully understand the functions of the Labour Law Reform. Looking back for many years ago on how MTUC had struggle for many years to reform the law. Nevertheless, we had achieved the success on several law reform like Minimum Wage, Employee Insurance Scheme and recently the SOCSO that covers all workers including migrant workers in Malaysia. He also very proud on the achievement and success story from MTUC MRC whom are helping to assist the migrant workers working in Malaysia. At the end of his speech, he hopes that all the participants would give their best views and proposals during this 3 days seminar.
MTUC will also go on a nationwide roadshow to meet all the affliates member and the public to share our views and obtain feedback so that this LLR is inclusive.
