#ModiMustGo: Solidarity With Our Indian Colleagues
MTUC in support of the call by ITUC gathered at the ground floor of Menara 1 Mont Kiara where the High Commissioner of India before handing over the Memorandum to the Labour Attaché Ms Krishna Lal Paul.
About 30 leaders of MTUC and its affiliates gathered and held the banners as follows:
1. MODIMUSTGO: SOLIDARITY WITH OUR INDIAN COLLEAGUE
2 “MODI STOP UNION BUSTING”
4. “MTUC SUPPORTS INDIAN TRADE UNION WORKERS CHARTER”.
President of MTUC Datuk Abdul Halim, Secretary General Bro J Solomon, Bro Matkar, Vice President, Bro Balasubramanian Asst Secretary General, Secretary of MTUC Selangor/KL Division, Bro Faisal, Asst Secretary for Education Bro K Soma, General Council Members and leaders from various Unions were present to extend their solidarity for our counterpart in India.
The President and the Secretary General briefly took turns to brief those who are gathered on the action of MTUC and the injustice done by the Indian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi towards the workers in India.
The main cause of the dispute is because Indian government is refusing to have social dialogue with the Union leaders that has escalated the trade dispute and dissatisfaction.
Some of the serious concerns are 93% of the workers are the informal economy and the labour law amendments will further increase the transfer of permanent to informal economy.
There are 200 million who are unemployed and the Modi Govt promise of 20 million creation of jobs is not to be seen.
We also share the concern of rising of the slavery and bonded labour, amendments to the labour laws are allowing family members to be employed resulting in a rise in child labour.
