Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
It will be operational from March 1, Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said here Wednesday.

He
said the system, developed by the Skills Development Department was aimed at assessing
the skill of workers for the manufacturing sector.

Skills acknowledgement
was one of the criteria needed for foreign workers who wished to continue work
here after five years.

Dr Fong asked all employers to apply for the acknowledgement
online at least three months before the expiry date of their workers’ work permits.

He
added employers could familiarise themselves with the system by logging to www.ceds-nvtc.com
from Feb 15.

A total of 75,776 foreign workers had their skills acknowledgement
confirmed up to last month, he said. — BERNAMA

Source: http://www.bernama.com.my/bernama/v3/news.php?id=245646
