Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
He said changes to the labour policy were needed because of the rising demand
for workers in the agriculture and plantation, manufacturing, construction and
services sectors but Malaysians were less interested to get into them.
<p>Priority would still be given to Malaysians to fill job vacancies despite changes
to the policy, he said when met at his Hari Raya open house here.</p>
<p>"One change will require employers to advertise job vacancies for 30 days
and if they are unable to get Malaysians within the period with valid reasons,
we will allow them to recruit foreign workers," he said.
