MELAKA, June 20 (Bernama) — Some 10,000 public and private sector workers are expected to attend the Labour Day Assembly 2014 to be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here Saturday.
The Human Resource Ministry said in a statement that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to officiate the assembly themed ‘Pekerja Berinovasi Pemacu Transformasi’ (Innovative Workers Drive Transformation).
Najib is also set to present 13 awards including the Prime Minister’s Award For Excellence in Human Resource and Tokoh Pekerja Negara to recognise contributions made by workers, government departments and private companies in upholding human resource development in the country.
“The assembly is held to foster the spirit of cooperation between the government, employers and workers in efforts to develop the country.
“Labour Day celebrations are also held to strengthen workers’ contributions for the country and emphasise the importance of their contribution in upholding the country at the international level,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the ministry is also holding an exhibition, career counter and sales of goods at 54 booths for three days starting today. — BERNAMA
