A MAN claiming to be a Datuk has been cheating illegal foreign workers and their employers in Shah Alam by convincing them he can help speed up their applications for permits.
Harian Metro reported that the man, in his 60s, has claimed that he has a Datukship from the Sultan of Selangor and connections with immigration officers and the Home Ministry.
A restaurant owner who knew him told the daily that the man would convince his victims he had the authority to order the Immigration Department to arrest illegal foreign workers.
It was reported that the man would ask his victims for protection money, amounting to tens of thousands of ringgit, so they could avoid arrest.
The man also alleged that he could issue a MyKad to an illegal worker for RM6,000 and a foreign worker’s iKad for RM3,000.
In reality, the victim never receives the documents after payment. Instead, the man scolds anyone who asks about the progress of the applications.
Shah Alam deputy OCPD Supt Ruslan Abdullah confirmed receiving two police reports involving the man, and said the case was being investigated by the commercial crimes department.
