Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
MTUC Technical Committee met today to go through the 1st Draft views and recommendations of the tripartite meeting of the proposed changes in the Labor Law Reform in Malaysia to be submitted to the Government.
We were able to comprehend better and polish up some of the observations which were misinterpreted and it was a fruitful meeting and the MTUC Technical Committee were able to understand better and we made improvements in our coordination.
This meeting was chaired by TC MTUC Vice President, Bro Jey Kumar and attended by Bro J Solomon, Secretary-General, Bro Effendy, Finance Secretary,
Bro Andrew Lo, Bro Sivandhan and several other MTUC General Council members and Secretariat.
Mr. David Welsh from Solidarity Center also attended this important meeting to give his views.
MTUC will be having a follow up seminar on 12 – 14 March in finalising the observations together with the ILO Specialist before submitting to the affiliates and the government.
MTUC will also go on a nationwide roadshow to meet affiliates and the public to share our views and obtain feedback so that this LLR is inclusive.
