Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has been alleged to be intimidating and interfering in the administration of Persatuan Tenaga Nasional (PET) for the last few months and the matter is referred to IR Dept.
It is further shocking that the CEO of TNB Datuk Seri Ir Azman Bin Mohd and the Chief People Officer Dato’ Muhammad Razif Abdul Rahman have been further alleged to be using the social media to undermine the Union leaders and harassing members to resign from the Union.
TNB has also been alleged using underhand tactics to avoid meeting the representatives of the Union of its choice and attempting to meet representatives of TNB’s choice thereby further delaying the negotiation process of the Collective Agreement.
The unbecoming conduct of the TNB CEO Datuk Seri Ir Azman Bin Mohd and the Chief People Officer Dato’ Muhammad Razif Abdul Rahman is unacceptable of Heads in a Government linked Companies (GLC) and not conducive for the government’s reputation.
The Code of Ethics of TNB to “serve our customers and fellow employees in the same way we would like to be treated” is contrary given the alleged misconduct of the CEO and CPO of TNB.
Further, the requirements of treating “each individual with respect by way of recognizing every individual’s role, treating each individual with dignity” have been compromised by the CEO and the CPO who are supposed to uphold these Codes of Ethics.
PET being an affiliate of MTUC sought its intervention to seek an amicable settlement since their repeated appeals to TNB did not materialize.
MTUC now observes an increased number of GLC’s reported to be exploiting workers, trade union leaders and indulging in anti trade union activities by high highhandedly violating International Labour Standards and in total breach of the Rule of Law.
MTUC is concern about this alleged conduct of TNB management to undermine any of our affiliates and its workmen.
We are also equally concern whether this alleged attempts are to disrepute the new government.
Since MTUC believes in social dialogue we have written two letters dated 5th October and 8th November 2018 to TNB.
Our next edition will reveal the outcome of the two letters.sional Berhad (TNB) has been alleged to be intimidating and interfering in the administration of Persatuan Tenaga Nasional (PET) for the last few months and the matter is referred to IR Dept.
