Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud said
the theme for this year’s celebration was No Discrimination In Any Form.
<p>He said the celebration would see a gathering of people on the eve (9pm, Saturday
night at Dataran Merdeka), instead of the usual gathering on Workers Day itself.</p>
<p>Syed Shahir said the MTUC would highlight issues on the effects of globalisation
which was eroding the rights of workers and which was also being felt in Malaysia.</p>
<p>"Our members and their families will join the gathering at Dataran Merdeka,"
he said adding that members of the public were also invited to take part.</p>
