KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 3, 2013): Employees in the private sector will be able to check their entitlement in wages through the minimum wage portal that was officially launched today.
The portal will contain important information like the way the minimum wage is calculated, the rationale of the minimum wage policy and those eligible for the minimum wage.
“With this portal, employers, employees and the public will be able to understand the reasons behind the implementation of this policy and I strongly believe this will help Malaysia to attain the status of a developed country by 2020,” said Human Resources Minister Datuk Richard Riot.
“This policy has already been implemented in 160 countries, and has not failed in improving the socio-economy balance in those countries. This will slowly, but surely help Malaysia’s transformation into a developed country.”
He said the portal was developed with the cooperation of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) and National Wage Consultative Council (MPGN), and has three segments, including segments for employers, employees and space for the latest updates which would include publications pertaining to the policy. The policy will be implemented on Jan 1 and this portal will allow all employers to understand its implementation.
“From Jan 1 all employers will have to abide by the policy and action can and will be taken against those found violating it,” he said.
