Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
8 April 2020. Kuala Lumpur.
Pursuant to the collaboration between MTUC-ILO MRC and the Bangladesh Embassy inked by the MTUC Secretary General J SOLOMON and Deputy High Commissioner Her Excellency Mdm Wahida Ahmed, the MRC officials assisted by volunteers from trade unions, students and other non-union workers parceled the groceries purchased by the Embassy at Mydin Hyper Market.
Our volunteers together with the Bangladesh Embassy staff assisted in delivering grocery parcels to around 500 Bangladeshi workers stranded due no wages being paid during this MCO.
Our MRC Coordinator Bro K.Somasundram and his Officer Bro Aiman coordinated with the volunteers for delivery of groceries throughout Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Putrajaya and cyberjaya.
The President of the Postal Uniform Staff Bro. Ismail provided the official vehicle assigned by their CEO of POS Malaysia for this purpose and his colleagues were very kind enough to extend their sincere assistance as Postal CSR bagan their distribution from today.
Special thanks go to Bro. Tai Zee How who is the Special Officer to a current Deputy Minister for volunteering with us to sort out the groceries for the distribution.
As a routine function, every morning at 10am or volunteers commence distribution of groceries from the Bangladesh Embassy premises at High Commission for the People’s Republic of Bangladesh located at No-5, Lot 9 & 10, Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, Malaysian Police Training Centre, 54100 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
In this difficult time we are in need of more volunteers and therefore request all those who could extend their hand in this endeavor to please contact Sdr. K Soma the MRC Coordinator on 0123303385 who will brief you on your assignment.
Let all trade unions extend our assistance to the needy workers irrespective of their nationality.
Shared Civilisation is the key to world peace.
